Chocolate De Batirol: A Unique Chocolate experience
In my search for a free laptop friendly Wi Fi place I ended up in Serendra Fort Bonifacio in a resto called Chocolate De Batirol. It caught my attention because of their free wi fi sign. Without second thought I asked if there was also a place that I could plug in my now dying ACE battery (ACE is the name I gave my new laptop :)) and thankfully they said they do. As I sat at their outdoor dinning set I was immediately impressed with the way things were so oddly shaped yet quite artful. Even the chairs were made of solid wood, the kind that was as if it were carved straight out of a tree. I took a peak inside and was further impressed at their fusion of modern art and wood furnishings giving it a barrio modern twist.
The menu was brought to me and it reminded me of how menu's were presented in the small cafe's that were along the road to baguio. What was described in the menu though was quite alluring. There was a lot of gourmet dishes to choose from that was both local and european in its orientation and a couple that were seemingly a fusion of both. What caught my attention and intrigue was the Baguio chocolate batirol and their fried chili with cheese dip. They even had fresh seasonal fruit shakes (thankfully just the real fruits and no milk - lactose intolerance is definitely an asian thing). While waiting I just had an urge to smoke and gladly it was allowed since I was seated in their outside area when they gave a rather curious looking ash tray that resembled the tree stump type of seating they had. When the food was finally served I couldn't help but take a photo of them as they looked so pleasing aesthetically making my urge to chomp down those seemingly innocent looking deep fried chili and cheese. Being a chocolate lover though I just had to try their batirol blend first and was pleasantly greated by a thick, rich and warm chocolate taste. It was just the right bitter sweet taste. Then came the chili which I dipped in a lavish white cheesy dip and to my surprise they too had the right amount of spicyness (by this I mean the hotness factor was quite tolerable. To take out the spicy kick I slurped their watermelon fruit shake and was pleased to find that it was really made fresh from watermelons. I took a glance at their menu again and would have tried a lot more hadn't I felt the limit of how much I could actually eat at a time, but definitely with the way these first dishes had impressed upon my palate this was a place to come back to (that is aside from the free wi fi).
It is quite a cute little place right beside A Different Book Store in Serendra, Taguig. It is definitely worth a visit and an excellent place to work and think at the same time as one enjoys a pleasant cup of chocolate delights and delectables.
